I recently came across a new and powerful application for making presentations. It has most of the bells and whistles you'd expect from PowerPoint or Keynote except for one big difference...this was a web app called 280 Slides.
280 slides operates very smoothly with drag and drop functionality and floating windows for tools. Works so smooth I thought it was done in Flash for a second. It's not, which makes it all the more impressive.
I know Google is continually working on expanding and improving their office productivity tools (Docs, Spreadsheets and Presentations), along with preparations to roll out the Chrome OS later next year. I have yet to check it out, but Microsoft Office is in the cloud now too. All of these trends are indicative of the direction software is moving with deliberate speed, and it's really nice to see a smaller player in the field do such good work. In fact, the 280 slides app is in my opinion better than Google Spreadsheets from what I've seen so far. Cheers to 280 slides for keeping the big boys on their toes.
