Media & Technology

The New York Technology Council Media Panel we particpated in last night helped remind me that change is the only constant.  We are not participating in an unprecidented cultural shift because one form of media is on the rise (www.everytingintheworldonline.com) while another wanes (sorry newsprint). Media's been evolving since cave paintings.  The orgnaizations that accept that and work to find the current within that tide which will take them farthest suceed.  This was most apparent to me when General Manager of Crain's (75 year old print publication) Marc Minardo spoke about how Crain's is growing while speaking in the shadow of the NY Times Building.  The trick isn't to know which channels are dying and or growing it is to understand that the "print" in print or the "web" in www... is just a means of delivery.  From the consumer's point of view it's always been about the content.  They were cave paintings only because people lived in caves and felt safer there than drawing on the river bank in front of the sabre tooth tigers.  Provide the best content for your consumer through the most relevant and cost effective channels for your business and you'll be successful regardless of your technology heritage or lack there of.
